Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Students:
I am so excited to be starting this new school year with you at Live Oak Elementary! I am truly blessed to be the instructional leader of such a remarkable school community.
This year begins my third one as Principal of Live Oak, and I could not be more thrilled to work with such an amazing group of people. I have been dedicated to the field of education for more than 23 years. During this time, my experiences include: teaching at the elementary level, serving as an Instructional Coach for a K-8 school, and as an Assistant Principal. I am married to a fellow educator and all-around great guy, Chris, and have two beautiful grown daughters and two amazing step-children.
All of us at Live Oak are eager and excited about what promises to be an amazing year. We are poised to provide academic experiences for our students that are rigorous, relevant, and that build relationships. As your principal, it is important to me that everyone who steps through our doors (staff, students, and parents) are excited to be here working together to ensure everyone succeeds. This attitude enables us to meet the challenges of academic excellence in a positive, fun, and supportive environment.
It’s imperative that our community embraces the idea of doing whatever it takes to advance the achievement of every student. As a professional learning community, we are committed to working tirelessly to provide challenging educational opportunities for children each day. However, in order to be a successful learning community, we will need your help as you are an important part of your child’s education. Open communication with your child’s teacher is vital to ensure an effective and successful partnership throughout the year. Parental involvement is an important aspect of every child’s education and is the primary factor in a student’s success in school. There are many ways in which you can participate in school: sitting down with your child when they are doing their homework, asking them what they learned, asking them about the book they’re reading, volunteering in the classroom, becoming a member of PTSA, and assisting with special activities are just a few things you can do to help make a difference.
My goal as principal of Live Oak is to ensure the growth of every student on campus. I will work to improve academic rigor by providing opportunities for vertical and horizontal collaboration amongst staff members. This type of collaboration will allow us to create learning experiences that require students to think independently and critically. In addition, I am committed to the implementation of personalized learning and practices that support student interests in all classrooms, as well as the implementation of practices to support English Language Learners.
I will continue to develop a culture of leadership through the Leader in Me approach which is based on Stephen Covey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. This approach helps students develop interpersonal skills to empower themselves to become a leader in every aspect of their life. I will also strive to create a safe environment, in which high, clear expectations and positive relationships are fostered, and active learning is promoted.
We are committed to excellence at Live Oak, in an effort to ensure that every student leaves our campus on a path towards being college or career ready. However, for this to become a reality, we must all work together as a learning community and keep our focus on doing what’s best for students.
Together we are “Growing Hearts and Minds, One Leader at a Time.
Respectfully,
Mrs. Patti Parson
